Dr. B S Ajaikumar's book 'Excellence has no borders’ is a film ahead of a book, the awe-inspiring story of a true maverick in motion who set up a thriving cancer care chain against all odds. The stream-of-consciousness narrative probes deep into the fundamental questions of life but maintains a solution-centric approach not found in many mainstream accounts. The book covers Dr. Ajai's student days at school and college, his tryst with medicine, his emigration to US, residency training, fellowship, and practice, and his homecoming to set up cancer care centres in India - covering all milestones not in sequential fashion, but by virtue of a highly cinematic back-and-forth narrative. The book starts with a couple of nerve-wrecking events — one a near-bankruptcy owing to the dot com bust and two, a SOS call from India informing the protagonist about his son's wheelchair accident and ICU emergency.

The Story Of Antardhwani
The Oncologist Who Empowers Rural Women
Right from its inception, HCG has been unflinchingly focused on oncology, covering the entire gamut of services from cancer prevention to rehabilitation. It has over 220 oncologists and 440 physicians working across subspecialties including Head & Neck, Neurosurgery, Breast, Cardiothoracic, Hepatobiliary, Gastrointestinal, Gynaecologic, Orthopaedic, and Robotic surgery, besides imaging and genomics.
HCG’s hub-and-spoke model spells its competitive edge. It consists of hubs providing all three treatment specialties - medical, radiation, and surgical oncology - and a Bangalore-based Center of Excellence providing specialized services like robotic radiosurgery, molecular imaging, nuclear medicine, and subspecialties in oncology. Spokes on the other hand are located in small cities and towns typically serving as chemotherapy centers providing basic therapy and follow-ups. HCG specializes in understanding the essence and progression of cancer and how it can affect every patient differently. At the core of this understanding are three aspects: our unique approach to treatment, intelligent technology adoption, and clinical excellence.
Being a social entrepreneur and philanthropist, Dr. Ajaikumar has incepted several NGOs providing financial aid for needy cancer patients, empowering women through microfinance, sponsoring the education of deprived children.
